How to compete
(Team Leaders - Please explain the following to your members): The on-site screens will show the current event, as well as the upcoming events, and each gentleman's competitor number for each upcoming events. Be aware and ready to line up prior to your event. This line up usually happens as much as 20 minutes prior to the event running, and since events may run up to 30 minutes early, you will need to be aware of the schedule 1 hour before your event. Once you are in line, the deck captains will check you in. Please stand in numerical order. Many competitors do not show up for their event. Therefore, until you are checked in to the event by the deck captain, it is assumed you are not coming. If you are not checked in, especially if your number is not on screen, then your number may not be made available to the judges' PDAs for recall. If your number is not on the screen, it should appear about 30 seconds after the deck captain checks you in. Unless you are on the floor dancing, you must be in line, in order by number, and checked in by the deck captain before the music starts for the first flight of your event. Once the music starts for the first group of dancers in the event, the numbers are locked in. If your number is not on the screen at this point, you cannot be added to the event. Competitors will be instructed to enter the floor in 'flights', or 'heats' of up to about 24 couples. Once we know how many competitors have arrived for the event, we can divide the group into these even flights. Events often have more than 90 couples total. So this process must begin at least 15 minutes before the event runs. Recalls: After all flights of a given heat are completed, and results calculated, the couples who have earned the most recalls from the judges will be invited to dance again. These couples will be displayed on the screen at the time of the next round of that heat. Sometimes, there is a break in the schedule before the next round. In this case, the next round of the event may not be on the screen yet. It will be displayed later, when the next round of the event is approaching. After several preliminary rounds, comes the final round. This round will have at most 8 couples. All couples will be ranked by the judges. Later, the couples will be invited to receive their placement awards. |
